harribobs > Rfn. R/4440 Samuel Smith 13th Battalion KRRC, Mr. Wm. Smith, of Manse-cottage, Moorgreen, received official intimation on Wednesday morning last that his son was killed in action on September 29th. News had previously been conveyed to the family by a pal that Rfn. S. Smith was posted as missing on Sept. 29th, the letter intimating that he had failed to return from a self-imposed task of fetching in the wounded, and it is now safe to assume that he met his death whilst fulfilling this noble duty. Sam, who was 26 years of age and single, had seen over two years active service in France. He was a miner at High Park Colliery prior to the war, and enlisted on Sept. 10th, 1914. he is buried in a named grave in Ypres Reservoir Cemetery
